Ceb: from OG coach to TI8 offlaner

Before The International 2018, Sébastien “Ceb” Debs was OG's coach; he went into the tournament as the offlaner after roster changes in May 2018. By TI8 he had changed his handle, having previously played as 7ckngMad.

TI8 ran August 20–25, 2018, at Rogers Arena in Vancouver. Because of the May roster changes, OG lost its direct invite and had to qualify through the European open qualifier. In the grand final, OG faced PSG.LGD and won 3–2: they took game one, dropped games two and three, then won games four and five. The first-place prize was $11,190,158.

Axe and Berserker's Call in game four

Game four was the turning point: LGD led 2–1, Ceb was on Axe and, as Cybersport.ru reported, landed Berserker's Call in the key fight. According to Ceb himself, Axe was OG's last pick. That fight turned the final around.

He didn't have much experience on the hero. In 2022, Ceb said on his Twitch stream that his only game on Axe before TI8 had been a scrim, which he finished 0/13/0, as Cybersport.ru reported.

Ceb broke down the draft for that game on the French show Daily Oracle, recapped on sports.ru. In his telling, OG took Wisp and Phantom Lancer against Morphling, and Axe was a pick LGD didn't expect and, short on time, couldn't answer. OG won game four to tie the series 2–2, then took game five as well.

ODPixel and Fogged's shout

According to ONE Esports, the drawn-out “Ceeeeeeeb!” belongs to two English-language casters at once, ODPixel and Fogged. The shout came when Ceb made an outstanding Axe play against PSG.LGD.

ONE Esports doesn't specify the game number, but based on accounts of the final it was most likely game four. The exact number of e's isn't fixed: you'll see both “Ceeeeeb” and longer versions.

ONE Esports calls “Ceeeeeeeb!” perhaps the most popular voice line of the 2019 Battle Pass season.

An Evolving Chat Wheel line in the TI9 Battle Pass

In May 2019, the line was added to The International 2019 Battle Pass as an Evolving Chat Wheel line unlocked at level 100. The higher the pass level, the longer the shout: Steam forum users mention about 2 seconds at level 100 and around 4–6 seconds by roughly level 1,000. That made the line one of the rewards for leveling up the pass.

Today people spam “Ceeeeb” in chat as an excited greeting or as a stand-in for “GGWP” after an epic comeback. Related items from the same story include the meme “S4 talks only to TI winners” and v1lat's line «Резать» (“Cut them!”). According to ONE Esports, v1lat shouted it in game four of OG vs. PSG.LGD while calling ana's Phantom Lancer, and it also made the chat wheel, at Battle Pass level 96.

The catalog card shows a close-up photo of Sébastien “Ceb” Debs at a computer, wearing glasses and white headphones with a mic, against a dark red background. It's a portrait of the player, not a frame of the Axe play itself.
