DTS vs EnRo-Griffins in the original Dota
The meme was born in the days of the original Dota, DotA Allstars. The caster was Vitaly "V1lat" Volochay, and the match was between DTS, whose roster included ArtStyle, and EnRo-Griffins. As Rambler wrote in 2020, citing Cybersport.ru, it was the playoffs of DotaClub Pro Series 2009: DTS lost 0–2 to EnRo-Griffins in the upper bracket, then fell to Xeo.Int in the lower bracket and were knocked out.
Sources disagree on the date: in December 2019 Gameinside.ua placed the meme in 2010, while a cyber.sports.ru blog wrote in February 2022 that it happened "about 12 years ago." The card says 2009, following the version that names a specific tournament.
A lost team fight and a shout on air
During the match DTS lost a team fight in spectacular fashion, and V1lat shouted live on air: "THAT'S IT, THE SHIP, ALL INTO ARTSTYLE! MINUS ARTSTYLE…" and then added that "…you can leave now." The end of the outburst contains profanity, so it is usually quoted in shortened form.
Sources don't explain what exactly "the ship" meant. One guess links it to Kunkka's ultimate, Ghostship, but nothing confirms it.
According to Rambler's account, V1lat was breaking down the fight in real time, listing what was happening on screen, and the moment stuck because of the emotional pace of the commentary. Rambler and Gameinside.ua agree that the monologue ended with the words that this was "not a game" anymore; Gameinside.ua notes that the original wording was cruder and publishes a video of the moment.
A decade-long copypasta
The phrase quickly became a copypasta. As Rambler wrote, the meme held first place among the "most epic" in Russian-speaking Dota for 11 years and overshadowed tournament finals. It even has its own VKontakte group, with a description, a photo album, and merchandise. Users on the dota2.ru forum recalled that it was spammed during flash mobs in other communities' chats.
According to cyber.sports.ru writers, the pasta still gets spammed in streamers' chats. Its meaning has widened over time: today, as Gameinside.ua noted, it expresses extreme frustration with a team's play. The same outlet says the quote most often circulates as a copypasta and is frequently modified.
Kunkka in the picture
In the catalog the meme is illustrated with a portrait of the hero Kunkka: a gray-haired captain with a thick beard and mustache, in a blue coat. The image is small.
It is not a still from the broadcast but a portrait of the hero that one guess connects to "the ship" in the shout. The Ghostship connection remains an assumption.
Example ship captions
These examples are made up for illustration: "When all five teammates jump on one enemy at the same time," "That's it, the ship, all into the carry, minus the carry," "The caster inside me when our mid player walks up to the enemy tower alone," "That's it, the ship, all into the support, minus the support, minus the wards."
Like the original shout, the captions describe the moment everything collapses at once. The examples use the same trick as modified versions of the pasta: ArtStyle's name is swapped for something else.
Other memes about V1lat and ArtStyle
V1lat has other famous lines too, such as "One Chinese player per minute," from ESWC 2011. Another meme remembered from the same era of Russian-speaking Dota is "Ivan-Balanar."
ArtStyle later became the hero of yet another meme, "New Era," tied to his move to NAVI in 2015.
