The web savior and the Dallas musician

In 2017 a series of grotesque photoshops formed around large Black men. One early notable video trace refers to an April remake of Minecraft published by yngxJosh. Over the summer a themed Facebook page appeared, and by the end of the year a Reddit community. These traces do not establish a single creator of the hero, and they do not mean that every early character was Corey Struggs.

Gradually, photographs of Struggs became a particularly recognizable basis. By then he had been rapping in Dallas for many years: in a 2016 interview he talked about mixtapes, work on music videos and music tied to his own life experience. The meme biography developed separately and endowed him with the image of an almost divine defender of the Earth. The name of the branch contains a racial slur; a modified form, Big Nibba, tied to a deliberately distorted online spelling, also occurred.

In February 2018 the wave of pseudo-news images and discussions about the hero intensified. Later, participants learned of the musician's illness and began supporting a fundraiser for his treatment. His brother Wendell Richardson said the family received the attention and help with gratitude. After Struggs died in August 2018, memorial memes appeared: the fictional savior of the world also became the image of a person the community tried to support.

In the image Struggs stands in front of a white door in a black T-shirt. Two light chains hang around his neck; his arms are spread out to the sides, and weapons are visible in his hands. Bright light areas sit along the lower edges. The top of the head and the lower part of the figure are cropped, so attention focuses on the torso and the widely spread arms.

This version has no asteroid, no space and no news ticker. It presents a character to whom a caption can then attribute a supernatural action. The origin of the light effects and the date of the photograph are not established. The pose looks monumental and almost motionless, which suits the image of a hero able to handle an event of planetary scale without visible effort.

An impossible event dressed as a news bulletin

One of the branch's main devices is a headline about a feat that does not allow a literal reading. The character shields the Earth from a cosmic threat, controls time, or turns out to be the explanation for an astronomical phenomenon. The serious styling of a news report collides with the obvious impossibility of what it describes. The more confidently the reporter speaks, the more noticeable the absurdity becomes.

The photoshop combines a human figure and an object of disproportionate size. An ordinary photograph takes on the role of proof of a fantastic event. Sometimes the images are deliberately degraded with filters, blown-out highlights and crude captions: the excessive processing emphasizes that we are looking at a noisy online legend that does not care about realism.

At the same time, the hero usually solves the problem so simply that it seems like a minor household nuisance. This contrast links the format to stories about incredible strongmen: the cosmic scale serves as preparation for a brief, unruffled act. A new caption does not have to continue a shared plot, but it preserves the character's boundless ability to change the world.

Three impossible bulletins

In an invented news item, scientists announce that the hero delayed a lunar eclipse because he had not finished his dinner. The caption “Asking the Sun to wait five more minutes” turns the motion of celestial bodies into a question of scheduling. What is funny is not the weapon in the photo but the calm handling of an event that a person cannot control.

Another photoshop shows a distant star beside the figure and reports that its brightness was reduced because a lamp was too noisy. A cosmic phenomenon gets a household cause, as if a neighbor had asked to turn down the music. The news tone makes this absurd interpretation especially solemn.

The third variant announces that the hero stopped the rotation of the calendar and kept a day off for the entire month. Visually this can be shown with a large page that he holds near the Earth. The invented rescue is addressed to an ordinary wish to rest, yet it is given planetary scope. Such scenes keep to the fantastic role of the online hero rather than recounting events from a rapper's life.
