Who is shown
The frame is computer graphics from the game. A woman with pale skin, dark hair and red lips leans toward the camera, looks down and smiles. She wears a huge dark hat with wide brims, a gold-toned dress with a deep neckline, a gold necklace and a large dark brooch in the shape of a rose. Around her is a richly decorated interior with a carpet and stucco, and at the edges of the frame, in shadow, stand two figures in dark dresses with disfigured faces.
This is not a photo of an actress but a game model: memes use exactly this leaning, condescending pose.
The game and the character
Resident Evil Village is the eighth main installment in Capcom’s horror series. It was released on 7 May 2021 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Lady Dimitrescu is the mistress of the castle in one part of the storyline; her three daughters are with her.
Interest in the character flared up after the game was shown before release. On 1 February 2021, art director Tomonori Takano revealed through the series’ official account that Lady Dimitrescu stands 2.9 meters (about 9 feet 6 inches) tall. He also noted that the team was pleased by the players’ response to the game.
Why people love her
The main reason for her popularity is scale. A height of almost three meters makes any scene comic: the character does not fit into the frame, towers over everyone and yet remains calm and graceful. The contrast between polished manners and the horror genre lightened the horror and turned the villainess into an object of affection.
The design also has a strong silhouette: the huge hat is recognizable even in a simple drawing. That made it easy to create fan art, comics and costumes. The jokes mostly build on the character’s size and manners rather than on real people, and it is better to keep it that way.
Captions for the picture
“When they asked me to sit down at the kindergarten show so everyone could see the stage.” The joke plays on height: she has to take a seat and still dominates.
“Me: just popped in for bread. The store ceiling: …” The joke is that ordinary interiors are too cramped for her, and the tilt in the frame strengthens the feeling of size.
“When I show up as a guest and the hosts have already put away all the fragile things.” The character looks at the world from above and notices everything.
“Guests come into the house, and the hostess has already decided everything.” The effect of a confident gaze from above. In every variant the contrast works: status and size against an ordinary situation.
Tips for using it
The picture suits captions about superiority, height, strict elegance and unexpectedly peaceful situations. It pairs well with a quiet tone: let the character be polite rather than aggressive.
If the jokes are tied to the game, there is no need to explain the plot: the silhouette is enough for the reader. For those who don’t know the game, the caption has to carry the meaning on its own. Do not confuse the game character with the people who worked on her, and do not attribute real biographies to the character.
