What is shown in the photo
The photo shows the packaging, not the curd bar itself. It is an elongated cardboard box in orange-red with a light label and a gold ornament. The label reads “glazed vanilla curd bar in milk chocolate,” the fat content is given as 26 percent, and “B. Yu. Aleksandrov” is printed in large letters with a small brand mark in the middle.
The photo is taken on a white background, without people and without props, like a product card from an online store. So the joke rests only on the packaging itself and the brand name: the viewer sees the product and immediately understands what purchase is being discussed.
The brand and its founder
The “B. Yu. Aleksandrov” brand was created by entrepreneur Boris Yuryevich Aleksandrov, who headed the company “Rostagroexport,” known for its glazed curd bars. According to business press reports, the premium line launched at the end of 2006. It was conceived as a more expensive product: these bars cost roughly two to three times as much as classic ones.
According to the same reports, production of premium curd bars grew from about 10 thousand units a day at the start to 300–400 thousand a day, which amounted to about a third of the company's output. These figures confirm that the bar was not a niche exotic item but a mass-market product that buyers quickly got used to.
Where the joke came from and what is known
According to available descriptions, the jokes appeared around 2017 and are devoted to the high price: a buyer who picks up such bars supposedly can afford much more. The first post with this joke has not been found, so it cannot be claimed who and when first compared buying a product to wealth.
It is only known that the high price and steady demand for the brand were discussed in business publications long before the memes. From this grows the basic feeling of the joke: a small purchase of a few dozen rubles, yet in the buyer's mind it is almost a sign of belonging to the “elite class.” The exaggeration works precisely because the price difference with an ordinary curd bar is still noticeable.
Why the joke works
The joke is built on hyperbole. The curd bar remains essentially a dessert of one or two bites, while the caption elevates it to the rank of a marker of wealth. The more mundane the situation and the more modest the purchase, the stronger the contrast with the loud claim.
The second source of the effect is self-irony. A person who in the caption buys a “millionaire's curd bar” is usually poking fun at themselves: they economize on everything else but do not deny themselves a small pleasure. That is why such captions read good-naturedly rather than as mockery of other people's incomes.
Examples of captions and how they are built
Below are three independently invented captions. Each plays on the same contrast: a small product and a grand life status.
“Bought one curd bar and now I look at my neighbors from the height of my wallet.” An exaggeration: the price of a minor purchase turns into a sign of wealth, and the hyperbole delivers the punchline faster than any explanation.
“When you choose a curd bar over a cookie, you feel like the owner of a chain.” The transfer works here: an ordinary choice in a store is presented as a business decision, even though it is about a small dessert.
“A curd bar in hand, and in your head you're already planning to buy an island.” The caption pauses on a dream: the viewer expects a continuation about money but gets a fantasy, and the unexpected turn provides the laugh.
How to joke with this picture
It is most convenient to joke about the price and the habit of buying small things, rather than about buyers' real incomes. A joke becomes kinder when the author themselves is visible in it, rather than an imaginary rich person.
The box in the frame says little about taste, so it is better to play on the name and the price tag. A caption should be short: one thought and one unexpected twist usually work better than a long story about the brand. Themes of everyday thrift, a trip to the store, and comparing “regular” and “premium” options are a good fit.
