Oxxxymiron – Pozovi Menya s Soboi (“Take Me With You” Mashup)

A FAMILIAR MEME. A NEW CONTEXT.

Oxxxymiron – Pozovi Menya s Soboi (“Take Me With You” Mashup)

What this meme means

A music mashup in which a verse from Oxxxymiron’s rap battle against Johnyboy is laid over the melody of “Pozovi Menya s Soboi”, known from Alla Pugacheva’s version. It spread on TikTok in 2021; a collage with red curls became its visual symbol.

A face in a cloud of red curls

The picture is a photomontage. The frame is almost entirely filled by a voluminous wig of red curls, in the center of which a pale face with a direct gaze and pressed lips has been inserted. Light rays run across the top of the frame. The boundary between the face and the hairstyle is visible, so this is a splice rather than a single photo.

According to the meme’s title, the edit uses Oxxxymiron, while the hairstyle refers to the image of Alla Pugacheva. This is stated based on the meme’s title, not on recognition of the face: there is no caption on the picture itself.

What the mashup is made from

The mashup combines two very different things. The first is a fragment of Oxxxymiron’s battle with Johnyboy: aggressive, fast, and built on jabs. The second is the lyrical song “Pozovi Menya s Soboi” as performed by Pugacheva, one of the most recognizable melodies of Soviet and Russian pop.

The battle text was run through a vocoder and laid over the song’s melody, producing a strange, almost tender performance of harsh lines. Who made this edit and when could not be reliably established; the date of the battle itself is not given here because it is not confirmed.

Why 2021

The meme is linked to 2021 and TikTok: in that period vocoder and edit tracks often spread in short excerpts. Clips with this sound include compilations, collages, and users’ own footage. The moment of first appearance remains unclear: only early examples are known, not a proven first publication.

How the joke works

The main device is a clash of registers. A harsh, matter-of-fact battle and a soft, almost sentimental melody do not fit together, and it is precisely this that makes the listener laugh. The vocoder adds one more layer: the voice sounds mechanical yet melodic, as if a robot were singing a romance.

In addition, the roles are swapped: rap dialogue becomes a “love song” although the words remain the same. The viewer completes the absurdity on their own.

What a vocoder is and why it matters here

A vocoder is an effect that processes the voice so that it sounds like a synthesizer and follows a given melody. Thanks to it, rap lyrics, originally delivered rhythmically and without notes, are “sung” to the notes of someone else’s song. This is a common device in internet mashups: it lets you combine things that have no connection in meaning.

The result is perceived as a joke for two reasons at once: a familiar tune and familiar words fall together unexpectedly, and the sound seems to be either serious pop or a parody of it.

Captions for clips

“Banking app when I just wanted to check my balance.” The sound gives an everyday complaint excessive drama.

“When everyone in the chat is arguing and I came in with just one argument.” The lines sound like a jab, and the tune makes it comically solemn.

“Mom calls me to dinner while I’m at the most interesting point in the game.” The contrast between an important task and a gentle call is underlined by the melody.

“Boss: let’s discuss. Me:” followed by a photo with the wig. The image itself does the work instead of an answer.

How to use it

The picture is used as a cover or an insert in a video with sound. It works better when the caption is short and the whole joke lies in the contrast with the melody. Do not draw conclusions about real people from the caption: the montage is a comic device, not a statement about anyone.
