What happened in the video

According to Russian media reports, the video was posted to Pikabu on June 28, 2019, by a user named Witkin. It was shot at a small brewery in Naro-Fominsk, and the dog, a Jack Russell terrier, belongs to a colleague of the author.

The dog was playing with a plastic container in which beer was fermenting. Because of the heat, the container burst with a loud bang, and the dog fell to the ground. The author wrote that this breed's muscles contract sharply from fright. According to him, the dog recovered within a few minutes, a vet confirmed that he was fine, and two years later there were no consequences.

The dog's name and the beer named after him

Publications call the dog Frodo; in one place the name appears as Freddy, so the spelling should be considered unconfirmed. The brewery reportedly released an imperial stout called “Choco Frodo” in December 2019, named after the dog.

This information comes from journalists' retellings rather than from the video itself, so it should be treated as the author's account rather than a verified document.

The return in 2021

At first the video went almost unnoticed. In early August 2021 it returned to Russian social networks with no explanation and became an abstract meme: people argued about its meaning and made drawings, remixes and edits. What makes it abstract is precisely the absence of a story: viewers care not about the brewery but about the comic combination of expectation and a sudden outcome.

Viewers often ask what happened to the dog after the fall. According to the author's account, the dog quickly recovered and stayed healthy. This cannot be confirmed independently: the information comes from the person who posted the video and should be treated as his version of events. In addition, retellings differ on details such as where exactly it was filmed and what the dog's name is.

Caption examples

Example 1: “I'm looking at a message that says ‘we need to talk.’” The dog stands and waits, not knowing what is about to happen; the caption turns this into anxious anticipation.

Example 2: “My budget before the first of the month.” The container has already built up too much pressure, and the dog suspects nothing.

Example 3: “Me and a coworker: ‘Is this definitely safe?’ Release on Friday.” The dog plays someone who sees the risk but keeps standing close.

All three jokes use the same device: tension before a consequence that the viewer has already guessed.

How to use the image

The best captions are about a sudden “boom” in an ordinary situation: money, deadlines, messages, a power outage. Do not write a caption in which the animal suffers for real: in this image the dog came out fine, and cruelty would ruin the joke.

For a calm version, use the still as a reaction to a ridiculous bit of bravery: “I decided to find out what happens.” Another handy move is to place two texts side by side: “I” for the dog, and for the container whatever is about to go off, such as a deadline or an unpaid bill. That way the image reads without extra explanation, even if the viewer does not know the story of the clip.
