Why the caption works

The viewer expects a person absorbed in food to be relaxed and cheerful. Instead, the hero looks detached, as if listening to something in his own world. The headphones here are a sign of isolation: they literally separate him from the restaurant, the waiters and other people's conversations.

The second detail is the setting. An expensive restaurant, glasses and cutlery set a high tone, and his facial expression breaks it. The more solemn the place, the stronger the difference. The frame itself does almost nothing: it captures a moment between two states.

“Quiet hour in a restaurant where everyone's music is playing except mine.” Noise around and silence inside; the words “except mine” set the point where the gaze stops.

All three variants use one scheme: a short phrase describes the situation, and the frame shows the hero's inner state, which does not match it.

How to use the template

The frame suits jokes about wanting to shut out noise, about dinners with company where you're bored, and about expectations of a “beautiful life” that didn't pan out. The more specific the everyday occasion, the better.

Since the photo shows a real actor, captions are better built on the situation, without attributing words, feelings or events from his life to him. Any jokes about his feelings are acceptable only as an obvious fabrication, not as a description of the frame.
