Dancing Jon Hamm

A FAMILIAR MEME. A NEW CONTEXT.

Dancing Jon Hamm

What this meme means

A clip of actor Jon Hamm swaying with his eyes closed under blue club lights, from Your Friends & Neighbors. Since fall 2025 people tack it onto the end of videos listing small joys, which also revived Kato's "Turn the Lights Off."

Eyes closed under blue light

The frame is a close-up: a man in a dark jacket, short hair, eyes closed, head tilted slightly back, lips pressed together. Blue light falls across his face, his skin is glistening, and the background is blurred — silhouettes of people and colored lights. His expression is calm, almost detached.

The meme is usually described as a guy blissfully dancing at a club, and that matches the frame. But what the picture actually shows isn't the dance, it's the face: no movement is visible, so the meme rests on a single expression.

Episode eight of Your Friends & Neighbors

The frame is taken from the show Your Friends & Neighbors, which premiered on Apple TV+ in April 2025. Jon Hamm plays Andrew Cooper, nicknamed Coop, a former hedge fund manager. The club scene is from the first season's eighth episode, titled "When Did We Become These People?"

Promo clips for the show had already appeared back in March 2025, but for about seven months no one turned them into a meme. Nearly half a year passed between the scene being filmed and the first joke about it — worth keeping in mind whenever the frame gets called an instant discovery.

How Kato's song got attached to the frame

On TikTok, the frame was paired with "Turn the Lights Off" by Danish DJ Kato, sung by Jon Nørgaard. Sources disagree on the year: most say 2010, some say 2009, and one music outlet says 2007. Before Kato, the song had already been released by Dutch producer DJ Jose, also in 2007. The episode itself uses a different track entirely: the music was matched to the clip afterward, on social media.

In December 2025, the fifteen-year-old song climbed to number one on Spotify's viral chart and landed on the Canadian charts. Around the same time, a new version of the track appeared, made by DJ Justė and streamer Jaxstyle, with the vocals re-recorded by the same Jon Nørgaard.

A Russian-language start and an English-language explosion

The first meme versions appeared among Russian-speaking creators in October 2025, and by December the format had crossed over into English-language TikTok. One sound was used more than forty thousand times, and individual clips racked up millions of views.

The clip follows the same structure every time: someone names a small joy, closes their eyes and tilts their head back, and then the frame with Hamm appears. The actor publicly reacted to the trend in early 2026 and, according to press reports, said he was happy to be known for something pleasant, and that he hadn't received any payment for the meme.

Captions with a small joy

"The package arrived a day early" — a short caption, and the cut to the dance lands hard: the mundane detail and the total bliss sit right next to each other.

"The flash drive went in on the first try" — the same trick, but with an even smaller trigger, and that contrast makes the joke land harder.

"Found the lid to the container it actually belongs to" — a version for anyone who wants an occasion that's completely insignificant: the closing frame still delivers a sense of victory.
