The left side is a frame from the anime series Mahou Shoujo Site (Magical Girl Site), which premiered in 2018 and is known for its very grim, at times brutal plot about girls who gain magical powers through a cursed website. Aya Asagiri, one of the heroines, is shown more than once in the series in a state of extreme emotional breakdown, with a face contorted by screaming and tears. This frame, pulled out of context, became the raw material for the meme template.

The format of 'emotional anime girl on the left, impassive character on the right' was already an established genre of reaction memes when someone captioned the left panel 'Babe please have sex with me, I'm so horny'. The caption is deliberately exaggerated and absurd: the extremely dramatic expression clashes with a bluntly direct, grotesquely candid line, and the comedy comes from the mismatch between form and content. The frame looks like a girl going through a tragedy rather than saying something flirtatious.
The template spread across imageboards and Reddit communities devoted to anime memes, mostly as a blank form: users swapped in any other 'too direct' or absurd line while keeping the pair of frames unchanged.
The format is used for the contrast between raw, anguished emotion on the face and a deliberately mundane or absurd line. Typical captions for the left panel include 'Babe, just buy me one more DLC, I'm literally going to die' or 'Babe I swear if you don't text me back I'll lose it', delivered as if in the middle of a final meltdown, while Chad on the right replies with a short, unbothered 'Yes' or simply stares off to the side in silence.

It had no single viral explosion like a news event; it exists as a reusable blank that people apply again in different contexts, from discussions of games and anime to everyday jokes about relationships.
