Dame Tu Cosita

A FAMILIAR MEME. A NEW CONTEXT.

Dame Tu Cosita

What this meme means

Dame Tu Cosita is a dance meme featuring Popoy, a green alien animated by ArtNoux to the music of El Chombo with vocals by Cutty Ranks. In spring 2018, viewers copied its moves and remade the clip. The long limbs and unusual body movement made the character a handy symbol of absurd elation, especially in jokes about a team's victories.

Old music, new animation

The musical base existed long before the internet dance. In the late 1990s, El Chombo released a short track, Introduccion B, as part of Cuentos de la Cripta 2; it used the voice of Jamaican artist Cutty Ranks. That recording had its own history of remixes. The green dancer came later. The short song, the animation, and the mass challenge took shape in separate stages of turning a musical fragment into a meme.

In October 2017, ArtNoux posted a video with Popoy on Dailymotion. In 2018 the dance became noticeable on Musical.ly, where users filmed themselves copying the computer character's moves. By early April an official clip appeared on YouTube, which cemented the link between the music and the green alien. The animation, the music release, and the human imitations reinforced one another: a viewer might first see a parody and only then find the dance itself.

Victory in Fortnite amid digital noise

This image shows Popoy in a processed version with harsh colors, blown-out highlights, and a grainy background. The long green body bends, the dark face tilts forward, and the legs hold a dancing pose. A yellow hand with its fingers forming a ring is added on the left. A white vertical mark on the right and a colored stripe cutting across the image reinforce the impression of a repeatedly remade internet frame.

The top caption refers to a team that is winning; the bottom one specifies a Victory Royale in Fortnite. This is an invented context for the dance, not a picture of a match. A single Popoy represents the whole squad at once: the viewer mentally turns his movement into a collective celebration. The deliberately rough processing makes the elation even louder, as if a lucky game were accompanied at the same time by dancing, shouting, and a chat overflowing with reactions.

The body as a reaction

The meme rests on the gap between a familiar mood and a strange way of expressing it. Rejoicing at a victory is ordinary, but the alien's bends exaggerate that joy into an absurd performance. In the video, the rhythm and repetition of short movements matter. In a still image, a characteristic pose and caption take their place: even one frame lets you imagine the character continuing to jerk to the music beyond the picture.

The challenge adds a second layer of humor. A person tries to copy the body movements of a creature with unfamiliar proportions, and the mismatch itself becomes part of the spectacle. The remake with a game victory uses another possibility: it makes the dancer a nominal member of a team. He can be read as one's own inner jubilation, even though the other players outside look much calmer. The more modest the achievement, the funnier such a stormy celebratory reaction becomes.

From the victory screen to small achievements

In the invented caption, the team celebrates after a match in which the opponent fell out of the arena on their own. The result looks grandiose, while the winners' actual contribution is minimal. Popoy helps play precisely on the disproportion: the character dances as if the squad had performed an incredible feat. Another variant refers to a co-op game where everyone celebrates the lone player who has finally turned off a microphone that was always on.

The same dance can be moved into a household story: “Us when we find the last slice of pizza that nobody has claimed yet.” Here the team already consists of friends at a table, and a small stroke of luck replaces the victory screen. Such a caption keeps the energetic celebration but changes its occasion. The absurd movement unites the variants, while the music and the character's origin explain why this green alien was chosen for this reaction.
