Arms crossed, a red circle behind
The frame shows a man in a dark jacket with a light pocket square, standing upright with his arms crossed. Rings are visible on his fingers. He smiles slightly. Behind him is a red and black studio: on the right is a large ring made of red stripes, and on the left a vertical white lamp. There is no caption in the frame, so this is a clean template.
The composition resembles a guest introduction shot: the hero stands in the center with dramatic lighting around him. This static, almost ceremonial pose is exactly what makes it suitable for ironic “animating” in videos.
What is known about the source
According to television listings, Evgeny Ponasenkov, a historian and publicist also known as a media personality and the author of sharp public statements, was among the guests on the Comedy Club episodes that aired on 1 and 8 October 2021. Dzhigan and Blago White were also listed as guests.
The original introduction clip with this frame, and the moment when it was first set to different music on TikTok, could not be found. For that reason the exact date the joke appeared and the name of the author of the first edit cannot be given: it is only known that the trend is dated to 2021.
Not to be confused with another meme
In spring 2021 there was already a different TikTok wave featuring Ponasenkov: videos of him strolling unhurriedly through a park in a suit, filmed in 2018, were set to Jay Sean’s “Ride It” and captioned with situations where the hero is “in no hurry.” That is a separate story, with a different video and a different mood.
In the “krutitsya” version the hero is placed inside a frame with an energetic rhythm: the static pose and smile contrast with the music, and the viewer imagines a dance. It is worth remembering that the frame proves nothing about the hero’s manners or his attitude to the joke. It is a play with the picture.
The mechanics of the joke
Contrast is the basis. A serious, respectable image with a smirk is paired with lively, often dance-style music. The brain expects movement and gets a motionless pose, and that mismatch is funny in itself.
The second component is the caption about the situation. The person in the frame seems to be “delighted” by something, though no reason is visible; the caption explains what it is.
Caption examples
“Me when I realize on Friday evening that the report has been moved to Monday.” The respectable pose plays the role of self-respect, while the reason for joy is everyday and recognizable.
“My body when they start handing out cheese samples at the store.” The caption turns the “studio guest” into a body delighted by a small pleasure.
“The boss went on vacation and the project chat is silent.” The joke rests on the common feeling of relief at work.
“When the lights go out and the class is cancelled.” The school setting adds to the effect: a serious pose and childlike joy.
How to use the frame
Caption it with a situation where the joy is slightly improper but understandable. Write in the first person: “me when…”. This keeps the joke about you and the situation rather than about the person in the frame.
Do not attribute views or actions to the real person: he is here only as a “face of joy,” and his biography has nothing to do with the caption.
