I'm Fucking Gonna Do It Again

A FAMILIAR MEME. A NEW CONTEXT.

I'm Fucking Gonna Do It Again

What this meme means

An image of a crudely drawn Goofy on a pink-red background: the character grins and looks into the camera, and the caption “I'll do it again” turns him into the image of someone who stubbornly repeats anything regardless of the consequences. The meme is built on the contrast between the good-natured Disney hero and a grim tone.

What is depicted

The drawing is deliberately primitive, in the style of simple digital sketches: thick black lines and flat colors. Goofy, with a wide, bared grin, looks straight into the camera, his eyes bulging. He wears a red-and-white cap and is dressed in white. The background is bright red, almost pink.

The contrast is enormous: Goofy is a good-natured and clumsy hero of Disney's studio, but here his face looks almost insane. It is exactly this mismatch that made the image suitable for a joke.

Where the phrase comes from

According to meme reviews, the phrase comes from the audio sketch “Goofy's Trial,” published on YouTube in January 2017 by a user with the username TooDamnFilthy. In this grim video, Goofy admits to a serious crime in court and declares that he'll do it again. The sketch was later animated by an author under the name Shigloo, and such frames became material for reaction images.

The dates in different sources diverge: some reviews date the image's peak to summer 2019 and place the animation at the turn of 2019–2020. So the exact sequence of events is better not stated as fact, and the grim details of the original video are not needed to understand the meme.

For captions, this means a practical rule: you don't have to know the original, it's enough to recognize the grimace. This happens with many reaction images whose meaning has detached from the source and lives on in independent, far more good-natured jokes.

How the meme changed

In memes, the original topic has almost disappeared. Only the intonation remains: the person doesn't simply repeat an action, they do it stubbornly, defiantly, and with visible pleasure. That's why the picture is placed under harmless stories about habits, not under accounts of real crimes.

The more harmless the misdeed, the funnier the caption. Eating one more slice of cake, hitting “snooze” for the fifth time, or buying yet another unneeded item all look like a comic “criminal relapse.”

Another device is to set up a “before” and “after”: for example, in the first panel a person says they've had enough, and in the second Goofy appears with the caption. This creates a comic gap between words and actions.

Captions to use

“I promised myself I wouldn't open the fridge after midnight” uses the caption “I'll do it again” to show the promise won't last an hour.

“Alarm: rings for the sixth time. Me:” turns repeating the same mistake into a stubborn stance.

“They told me there was nothing to buy at the sale” works as the reply of someone who has already pulled out their wallet.

“Game: you died on this boss. Me:” is the gamer version, where stubbornness looks more like sporting excitement.

How to use the template

A caption works best when written as a short promise or a recurring situation, followed by “I'll do it again.” The reader needs to clearly understand what exactly the character will repeat.

It is important to stay on harmless topics: serious misdeeds and real harm don't fit this meme and ruin the joke.
